What has recently changed with LocalSpots
You may recently have noticed some changes to LocalSpots. Unfortunately, we have had to stop accepting purchases for gift cards as our payment provider Stripe would not process gift card transactions.
Although this news has been greatly disappointing for everyone on the LocalSpots team, we’ve been working hard to help you continue to support your local businesses through our website.
From now on LocalSpots will function as a directory that allows you to buy gift cards directly from businesses that sell their own gift cards online.
If your favourite local businesses don't have a gift card system, you can encourage them to set one up and create a listing for it on our website. There’s lots of information about how to do that here: https://localspots.sharetribe.com/en/infos/how_to_use
What has changed
We are now functioning solely as a directory (sort of like the Yellow Pages) for businesses that are offering gift card purchases.
You can no longer buy gift cards directly through our website. Rather you will be redirected to the business’s own website to make the transaction
All previous gift card purchases have been or are in the process of being refunded in full
What has not changed
We are still committed to helping local businesses through these tough times
It is still 100% free to make a listing on LocalSpots
LocalSpots is passionate about helping small businesses all over Australia who are affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Every business has costs that don’t change regardless of how many customers the business has - things like rent, bills, and employee wages. Australian businesses are currently experiencing huge declines in customer numbers due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Without customer income to cover these fixed costs, many small businesses are struggling to stay afloat.
That’s where LocalSpots comes in. By buying a gift card to redeem later, you’re giving small businesses vital cash flow to cover fixed costs in the short term, and showing your support until business can return as usual.
How does purchasing a gift card help out my local spots?
Every business has costs that don’t change regardless of how many customers the business has - think rent, bills, and employee wages. Australian businesses are currently experiencing huge declines in customer numbers due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Without customer income to cover these fixed costs, many small businesses are struggling to stay afloat.
Pre-purchasing gift cards gives businesses a boost of much-needed cash flow to cover these fixed costs. This helps your favourite local spots survive until they can get back to business as usual.
I’ve purchased my gift card, how do I use it?
The terms and conditions of gift card use will vary from business to business. Please refer to your receipt or to the business’ website for details.
Does LocalSpots charge any fees?
No - it’s free for businesses to list themselves on LocalSpots.
What if my local spot goes under?
You may be entitled to a refund, but this will vary from business to business. Please refer to the Terms and Conditions of your gift card as outlined by the business you purchased it from. The risk of businesses going under is precisely why they need your support now, and why you should help the businesses you love!
It’s super easy to create a page for your local spot - just use our form. All you need is the name and address of the business, a link to their website, and a link to their gift card purchase website page (if they have one).
How do I get my business listed on LocalSpots?
Create an account with us and create a listing for your business. You can direct people directly to your website to purchase gift cards. If you don’t have a gift card system already set up you can contact your POS or square to set one up.
